Jim
Weber is an independent real estate broker. He specializes in
the sale of victorian and craftsman homes in Los Angeles. I wish
everyone could appreciate and see the beauty in the great architectural
heritage of Los Angeles. The victorian and craftsman homes of
Los Angeles represent a golden age of architecture. These Historic
homes are surprisingly affordable and are still available to the
common man and woman. John Ruskin and William Morris (founders
of the 'arts and crafts movement') would be proud to see their
dream still alive in of all places Los Angeles.
Jim is a real estate professional who loves these architectural
gems built during LA's golden age of architecture.
I love to show prospective buyers houses designed and built by
past generations of artists/architects. This makes real estate
a very fulfilling avocation. The next step is to preserve these
neighborhoods. They offer a quality of life that is missing in
other parts of the city.
The most important current political question
affecting the historic homes of Los Angeles is how effective the
HPOZ'S are going to be. I strongly support the creation of the
HPOZ's (Historic Preservation Overlay Zones). Once you see the
beauty of these homes you can understand why these neighborhoods
need to be preserved. Granting HPOZ status to these neighborhoods
will empower them. Once these zones are fully enacted and operational
- watch these areas flower!
He lists and sells residential and income property primarily in
the pre-wwII neighborhoods such as the Historic West Adams, North
University Park, Echo Park, Angelino Hts, Highland Park and the
Mid-City areas of Los Angeles. But he will travel to where the
"Old Homes" are - from Pasadena to the sea.
He has worked with buyers, sellers and investors
since the early 80's. He also has a property management business
specializing in the renting and leasing of historic homes, apartments
and commercial buildings. He offers free tours of the Historic
West Adams neighborhoods, and has a wealth of knowledge he passes
on to interested buyers.
As an agent, and then as a broker, he has sold
many houses rich in LA history including: the only "Green
and Green" home left in Los Angeles on Cambridge, The Original
Von's (The Supermarket) family home on South Kenwood, the Bullocks
Mansion on So. Hobart, Harry Belafonte's old home on So. Victoria,
an early 5000 square foot Paul William's Colonial on W. 21st St.,
several of the early "mediterranean" homes designed
and built by L.A. Smith., the Abbott Kinney Craftsman on W. 24th
St., the Workman family home, a fabulous colonial, on Gramercy
Park, several Rupenthal bungalows on w 30th st, plus many craftsman
homes designed by Frank Tyler, and many others of note.
Prior to coming into real estate full-time, Jim
Weber taught for LAUSD for many years. He was one of the early
champions of early childhood education for the children of Los
Angeles. He was chairman of the LAUSD Mentor Teacher Selection
Committee. He served on the LAUSD Integration committee. He was
a member of the Board of Directors of the United Teachers of Los
Angeles for many years. He sat on the budget committee that oversaw
a multi-million dollar budget for the teachers union. He was on
the negotiations committee and at the bargaining table championing
quality education. He represented LA's teachers on the local,
state and national level. He was always and still is passionately
committed to quality education. He believes a world class city
like Los Angeles should have a world class educational system.
He graduated from UCLA and has a Master's Degree
from CSULA. He has lived in Historic West Adams with his family
since the early eighties. They reside in one of Los Angeles' earliest
Mediterranean style homes, a 4000 square foot 1916 Mediterranean
designed by architect L.A. Smith. Smith designed many historic
properties including the RIALTO theater in South Pasadena, the
BEVERLY theater in Beverly Hills and part of the 1932 Olympic
Village ( West Adams Gardens - now student housing) near USC.
His hobbies include: big game fishing (esp.in
the Sea of Cortez), Notre Dame High School football games, live
theater, Paris, the history of Los Angeles, photography and restoring
old homes. In addition to restoring his own home, he has also
restored homes ranging from a 1906 Craftsman Designed by Frank
Tyler to a 1939 Spanish Revival. Plus, he has consulted on many
other fine restorations.
He is a founding member of the West Adams Heritage
Association (WAHA). He is also a member of the LA Conservancy
and the Sierra Club. He is listed in Baron's Who's Who in American
Real Estate and Who's Who in California. He is a member of the

estate professionalism, knowledge and experience.
